	Mr Mark's Surgery Refurb Mr Mark's surgery has been refitted recently. The room has been redesigned to be more ergonomic and comfortable for clinicians and patients. Like all our surgeries; it meets the latest hygiene and cross infection control requirements. Patients have appreciated the fresh, modern appearance of the room Central Decontamination Room The practice has been improved by the addition of a central decontamination room. This is a dedicated room where all the instruments from each surgery are sterilised and bagged to ensure that the most stringent of infection control standards are met National Congress - Dental Implantology Mr Harris is keen to expand the amount of implant work carried out at the Practice. Having been involved in this exciting field for over ten years he has recently embarked on a three year MSc course in Implantology with Bristol University. In April himself and two members of staff attended the National Congress of the Association of Dental Implantology in Manchester. This event attracts world class speakers and is part of an ongoing programme of education that ensures his implant treatment is modern and well researched The future's orange! Mr Harris has completely refitted his surgery to create a room that improves ergonomics and fulfills the very latest cross infection control guidelines. The cabinetry is custom designed for the room. It is solid acrylic for strength and durability with seamless corion surfaces to facilitate cleaning. The german dental chair offers the latest refinements and instrumentation. It has a joint in the seat that allows much easier access for both our youngsters and senior citizens. To make longer treatment sessions more pleasant the chair has extra lumbar support and comfort upholstery that moulds itself to any body shape! A flat screen on the ceiling scrolls restful images of family and friends, or plays a dvd of tropical fish or shows the patient images of their own teeth captured on a clinical camera. There is restful music playing in the background, patients may even bring their own ipods/ cds if they wish. The aim has been to create a state of the art facility that is highly functional but very comfortable and stylish. We are pleased to say that reactions from patients have been very positive and the room is a pleasure to work in.
	50 years and still going strong On the 1st May 1969 Colin Harris, pictured front left opened the practice with a staff of one! Over the years the little acorn has grown but never lost it's original ethos of providing good quality dentistry at an affordable cost to the people of Paignton. Dentists, wives and staff gathered at the Palace Hotel Paignton for lunch. Those present included Colin and Sophie Harris, Richard and Shona Treharne, Neil and Elizabeth Harris and John and Debbie Marks. We also welcomed Patricia Shearman, Colin's first nurse. Pat brought some fascinating photos of the surgery, showing how equipment and decor have changed so much in that time. She also used to baby sit Neil Harris and delighted in showing a picture of him in bathing suit at Elberry cove in the summer of '66. It was unusual to see such a shock of thick, curly hair that has long since been discarded, but one could see a relationship with the sea developing at an early age! After a delicious lunch in the beautifully refurbished dining room short speeches were made by Neil, Colin and Stephanie Webb. Colin reminisced on his early days and thanked Pat for being so loyal and hard working, helping him establish the surgery. He paid tribute to the continuing efforts of staff and dentists past and present who have helped make the surgery one of the best in the area. Can we take the opportunity to thank our patients for supporting us over the years. There are many who still attend from the very first days of the practice, and their loyalty is very much appreciated. The practice will continue to develop and modernise over the coming years. Many of us hope that we will be around to celebrate the next big anniversary in 2059!
